Japanese Maple

Thoroughly enjoyed a gorgeous day. Moving some plants around became an archaeological dig. We uncovered a nicely poured slab at the base of the cabin stairs, complete with a concave drain that is aimed straight at a thirsty Hydrangea. The Japanese Maple seems to be happier now that it’s gotten more light for a couple of seasons. Next time we’ll know for sure, thanks to my coverall-clad spouse providing scale in this photo.

This is a tragic event for Athenians, musicians and guests who have enjoyed countless shows at this iconic venue. This paints my memory of watching Apocalypse Now in the balcony a more surreal color. Or the many times the place felt like it was on fire from all the folks packed in to see a great show.

Much of downtown is without power this morning as a precaution.

And just to keep it going for those birds, the goldfinches came back to the thistle buffet after an absence of a week or two. They’re bright yellow, all dressed up in breeding plumage.
