Just to add a little color to our day.

Mr. Billy is 93
A bunch of us got together for the beginning of the new year to celebrate Granddaddy’s 93rd birthday. We had quite a crowd at Persimmon Hill Country Club. It puts the “country” in Country Club, so it was good eatin’. It was good to see everyone, including friends of G’pa, my parents and aunts and uncles, and some of “the men” from the Tuesday night Hearts game (where friendship ceases).
Whether it’s his ability to extinguish candles, play a devastating game of bridge, check a record, pick a jury, land General Patton on a beach, use a slingshot, or trap a rabbit, I’m impressed with my Grandfather. So y’all give it up. Remember who you are, and use your head for something besides a hat rack.

Kellogg’s Limited Edition Indiana Jones Chocolate Cereal With Marshmallows
Naturally and Artificially Flavored. Enlarged to show texture.
I know that the DJIA dropping 700+ points may be on your mind, but there are other important events afoot. Like the coolest anniversary present ever, which I am taste testing right now. My initial response was:
Wait… this is just Cocoa Puffs with some reject Lucky Charms marshmallows in it.
All it took was another serving and a bit more enthusiasm. Back in my day, this cereal would have come with a real bull whip inside, or at least a way to send off for the gold plastic deco bowl pictured on the box. But I’m not greedy. I live on main street, not wall street. A printed box containing premium cereal is prize enough for me.
Anyway, I’m just warming up for a wiki how. I can sure as hell tell you how to eat this cereal.
- Pour the milk in with conviction.
- Marvel at the realism of the marshmallow skulls, hats, and torches.
- Sing the theme song to yourself while you eat.
See? With a little imagination, you can actually taste the dust, cobwebs, and precious artifacts. Indy, cover your heart!

Technorati
I claim this Technorati Profile for the Queen of Georgia Drive.
That’s all I have to say about that, but I would also like to say hello some old friends with a CSS hack roundup. There’s the old voice-family Tantek route. There are IE conditional comments. Then there’s * html and *:first-child+html. Finally, this blather.
- property: value; /* hello erbody */
- #property: value; /* hello Internet Explorer */
- _property: value; /* hello Internet Explorer 6, you dog…*/
I consider it a major victory to use none of the above, but I just had to untangle this last one, so I’m slapping this sticky note on my forehead. The octothorpe (#) filter can also be done with a period (.). Fun times.

Hummingbird central
There are quite a few hummingbirds this week. Instead of the usual pair playing feeder-tag, there are dogfights going on right when walk out the door.
Note to next year self, compare migration pattern. Oh, and, baby cardinals. Again.

Don Chambers and GOAT
Congratulations to local musicians Don Chambers and GOAT on a fine redesign. The art Don provided is great and I’m grateful to Jenn for including me on the project.
Given an atypical navigation, there’s the option of slicing it up crazy and chucking alt values at it. But not for Don, are you kidding? This called for a Staropramen served in an Old Style shot glass. If running around naked with your style sheets disabled is your thing, that’s ok.
Now go buy you some music.
Birds
Birds around, right about now. This is roughly in order of prevalence where we are.
- Cardinal
- House Finch
- Titmouse
- Black Capped Chickadee
- Ruby-Throated Hummingbird
- Goldfinch
